MoneyGram Haas F1 Team was delighted to welcome the ‘Grid Kids’ for the Australian Grand Prix on Sunday morning before their duties began.

Children selected for the prestigious role were provided by Girls on Track and Karting Australia. Girls on Track is an initiative which gives young girls a unique opportunity to get an insight into the world of motorsport. The aim is to encourage young girls into STEM subjects and industries, with a focus around motorsport. The other 10 children were brought by Karting Australia, the sole body in Australia recognized by the FIA and Motorsport Australia.

The group met with Troy Bull, Electronics Systems Technician at MoneyGram Haas F1 Team, and participated in a Q&A session. While Troy provided a race day morning ‘update’ on what the team is working on, he also gave first-hand insight into the various ways of getting experience within motorsport and how to take that first step on the career ladder.

Provided with a replica steering wheel, the children got to grips with the same hardware drivers Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hulkenberg use during a race weekend and tested each other on reactions and sequences.

Troy Bull, Electronics Systems Technician at MoneyGram Haas F1 Team, said: “The team is very supportive of us getting involved with initiatives we’re enthusiastic about, especially if it means sharing our passion for motorsport. It was great to meet the children from Karting Australia and Girls on Track – I’ve never had so many questions about my role and how to get into motorsport. It really shows the appetite of the next generation to get involved and understand how they can make their dream a career, so it’s important that where we can, we make the team and the sport accessible to everyone.”

MoneyGram Haas F1 Team is committed to making motorsport accessible to all and working with local communities and initiatives is a key priority for America’s Formula 1 Team when creating a positive legacy.
